FAQ: Advocacy Streaks

In advocacy, repetition is the key to success.

All advocacy tactics aren't created equal, so the goal is to “level up” advocacy over time, using tactics that are increasingly sophisticated, and investing more time on those that pack a bigger punch from multiple angles. To increase political will and make it more likely that a policymaker acts on our behalf, we need to ensure that they feel the pressure from all sides: from their constituents, key influencers or personal contacts, and the media.

Which is why this year, Climate Changemakers is experimenting with Advocacy Streaks!

What’s an advocacy streak?

Think of them as a workout. We’ll warm up, build the heat until we master the actions that are maximally impactful, then cool down and rest before doing it all again. And just as we should never forgo a warm-up, even “Level 1” actions are critical additions to the movement and are designed using advocacy best practices.

Each streak will focus on one key policy solution for addressing the climate crisis and each week’s action will gradually level up in tactical sophistication (always doable within our 60-minute Hours of Action!).

Quick Q&A on Advocacy Streaks

Q: I want to join a streak but can't make it one week. Can I still sign-up?
A: Yes! Any action is better than none. The playbooks are also always available in the Action Hub if you have time outside the Hour of Action.

Q: Can I drop in any week?
A: Sure! All Hour of Action teams will be strategically taking actions that build on each other week over week. You can show up anywhere and expect a warm welcome and productive 60 minutes. Mondays are especially good for drop-ins.

Q: There are four weekly teams... what’s the difference?
A: No difference! We’re all busy people who carve out the time to take productive action on the climate crisis; we just have different schedules. So pick the slot that works best for you and jump in!

Q: What will we do during advocacy streaks?
A: This month, we're focused on building electrification. In March, we'll advocate for green banks. This ensures we're not switching focus so often that we spread our impact too thin. We'll take one action each week using our step-by-step playbooks. The sequence of the weekly action plans will “level up” each week.
