What people are saying.
Policymakers
”Climate Changemakers are energetic, ardent advocates for environmental values, especially addressing the challenges of climate change. Their important leadership will help produce action against this existential threat. Climate Changemakers are making a world-changing difference.”
— Senator Richard Blumenthal, CT
”In this day and age, information is not the scarce resource, it’s attention. And it's sustaining people's attention that is the hardest thing to do, especially amongst lawmakers. So what's key about this is not just finding the strongest possible case and strongest possible argument, but about finding the best way to be able to sustain the attention on that going forward. That's why it's so important that all of you continue to do what you're doing to be able to keep this on my attention and on my radar, as well as others. We need to have champions both inside and outside of government working together for a common cause.”
— Congressman Andy Kim, NJ-03
“You have tremendous influence… thanks for being engaged. The leadership more often than not comes from outside the building and politicians follow what's popular, so to the extent you can make this stuff popular and bring it to the attention of politicians, it's really, really powerful, and I’m just so encouraged that you're all together doing this…I just want to again say I was so delighted to hear that this group exists and I hope you keep at it and get bigger.”
— Congressman Scott Peters, CA-52
Partners
“We loved partnering with Climate Changemakers. Their team was great to work with, and they helped us translate a complex issue into a set of easy actions that generated measurable results, including constituent contacts to lawmakers, letter to the editor submissions, and social media posts. I was impressed with the Changemakers’ entrepreneurial spirit and with the following they’ve built for their weekly Hour of Action.”
— Jeremy Pittman, Director of Grassroots Engagement, EDF Action
“Our politics and our biological planet need Climate Changemakers. And as the environmental movement transitions from defense to offense, the time has now come for politicians to make good on promises made over the past decade. Climate Changemakers is, and will continue to be, that powerful, necessary reminder.”
— Will Eley, Deputy Political Director, Environment America
Changemakers
“Almost a year ago, I joined Climate Changemakers, a group of incredible thought leaders and advocates for climate change. Each week, we devote an hour to action: phone banking to raise awareness, discussing innovative ways to advocate for policy change, listening to, and learning from influential guest speakers.
I come from a community consisting largely of black and brown people. Unfortunately, climate change is often not a part of their conversation. I strongly believe educating them is not only possible but necessary. Climate Changemakers has given me the tools to continually strengthen my knowledge of the importance and urgency of ending climate change. In addition, it empowers me to be a vehicle for action and a voice of reason to share the pressing need to inform and protect not just my community but also the world.”
— M.B.
“Huge shout out to @theclimatevote— taking that 1 hour per week to call or write friends, utilities, newspapers, and representatives with a bunch of other awesome people reduces my climate stress by like 70%.”
— H.C.
“I wanted to share: After last week's Hour of Advocacy (when we wrote to influential energy stakeholders):
1- I got an email response the next day from a legislative director in Maine, who wanted to know why I was interested in tax credits, AND said that he would look into making a public announcement of support from his org.
2- I got a call today out of the blue from the legislative affairs person for Maine's utility's parent company in Washington DC. She wanted to let me know that they are big supporters of creating an investment tax credit for energy storage.
It took less than an hour to contact these people, and it's obvious they're listening. Very cool.”
— A.U.
“Climate Changemakers is my weekly antidote to climate anxiety and despair. The team works to create meaningful, targeted and impactful actions -- you just have to bring your passion. It only takes an hour of your week but the glow from taking positive steps to save our planet lasts much, much longer.”
— N.B.
“Just need to take a quick second out of everyone’s Sundays to say that I am so blown away by this group of rockstar changemakers. Together, we keep climate action top of mind day after day, week after week, month after month. What we’re building together - this network, this supportive community - is so rare and special.”
— M.D.
“Thanks Climate Changemakers for a great month of advocacy and education! I am looking forward to March.”
— B.J.
“Just wanted to share that today’s advocacy session was excellent. Issue briefing on Clean Energy Standard was really well put together, and I learned a lot. (Past issue briefings - same goodness!) Thanks for all the hard work!”
— S.Z.
“For as many things I do in my life to combat climate change (lifestyle, giving climate presentations, even build startups with this North Star) I had always felt unconfident on how to spend my time politically in the name of climate. That is, until Climate Changemakers. They have made it SO EASY and only ask for 1 hour a week! Taking collective action really gets me excited to see and know that everyday people similar to myself have a voice and are using it for the good of our planet. The name perfectly captures what we do!”
— J.L.
“It was so nice to see all of you!!! I'm excited about this Thursday time and looking forward to doing this every week again :)
Thanks for organizing a great action hour. The new tool, the format of the hour -- everything was awesome and it felt like a great use of time. Go CCM!!!”
— N.V.
“My friends and I knew that donating money to campaigns of climate-progressive candidates and then wringing our hands till election day was not enough. So we became Climate Changemakers. Joining with other people from across the country for 1 hour of simple, effective action channeled our climate anxiety into positive action -- and because of the way the Hours of Action are organized and led, we made new friends too! When our candidates won (by narrow margins), we knew that it was the consistent and persistent effort that made the difference. Climate Changemakers is a fun, energized, diverse, and welcoming community of people who are willing to make a difference -- we are so glad to be part of it!”
— J.R.
“Just did an "hour of action" with @theclimatevote– and, OMG, I could not recommend this experience more highly. If you, like me, have climate anxiety and want to *do something about it*: https://climatechangemakers.org”
— M.E.
“I was one of those people who avoided politics at all costs. However, since coming to understand that as citizens, we have a responsibility to engage in the political process, I joined Climate Changemakers. They have provided an easy way to start to engage through simple, clear commitments (1 hour a week!); quality, thoughtfully researched briefings on relevant issues and policies; and talks with policy makers.
We are learning to integrate civic engagement as a habit through regular actions geared toward moving people through multiple phases of advocacy: solidifying our own values and stories, reaching out to our spheres of influence that we are more comfortable with, and reaching outside that comfort zone to engage even more people. Really glad to have Climate Changemakers as a resource to help guide the way.”
— S.Z.
“All the gratitude in the world for this community.”
— N.A.
“To all the organizers I know such as @theclimatevote and to all of my friends who tirelessly worked on this election- Thank you. Thank you for giving me hope in our process again. Thank you for making it easy to contribute to our democracy. Now let’s clean up our planet!”
— J.R.A.
“The more high caliber groups like Climate Changemakers and CCL getting out there, the better. A drumbeat that won't stop.”
— S.S.
“Climate Changemakers is the best! Their weekly Hour of Action is an awesome, tractable, and low-pressure opportunity to make an impact on climate with a bunch of other friendly folks. They walk you through everything you need to know in each call, and leave you feeling empowered and energized. Could not recommend this organization more highly.”
— M.E.
“For me, Climate Changemakers is the perfect combination of community, intention, knowledge-sharing, focused co-working, and, where needed, guidance. Every Hour of Action with Climate Changemakers is an hour well spent. I come away knowing we've done something together that's targeted, worthwhile, and just might make a difference.”
— N.G.
