Science to Action: Grassroots Activism for Scientists
The annual fall American Geophysical Union meeting convenes 25,000+ earth and space scientists, educators, policymakers, journalists, and communicators online and in-person in San Francisco.
Climate Changemakers Executive Director and co-founder, Dr. Eliza Nemser, will be co-convening an important session titled "Science to Action: Grassroots Activism for Scientists" alongside Dr. Rose Abramoff and Dr. Peter Kalmus (Scientist Rebellion), and Melissa Varga (Union of Concerned Scientists). This session is part of a broader, coordinated "Science to Climate Action" effort (see related 2023 programming here).
In addition to co-convening and co-chairing the session, Eliza has two papers this year at AGU:
"Moving the Public and Policymakers to Accelerate Climate Solutions With Actionable Guidance, Modeling, and Social Capital: an Opportunity for Scientists" (with co-authors Gabrielle Jorgensen, Madeline Dyke, Rah Riley, Dr. Twila Moon, and Haley Crim) and
"The Role of Scientists in Guiding Policymakers and the Public Towards Actionable Climate Solutions" (with co-author Dr. Vin Gupta).
And because now is the time for ACTION over talk, our Washington DC Hour of Action host Haley is also bringing together a special San Francisco Hour of Action for AGU scientists! Attendees will focus on drafting letters to the editor, sharing their science-backed message with a broader audience. Our friends at Onsemble (a climate tech startup focused on home electrification—check them out!) graciously provided their office space for this special event.
We can’t wait to see the impact generated from these efforts at AGU this year!
